Chilaiditi syndrome. Clinical series and literature analysis
Pricolo P., Pricolo R.
Divisione di Chirurgia, Ospedale Civile di Codogno, Lodi, Italy
Hepatodiaphragmatic interposition of the bowel, mostly the large one, is a rare event. Often the syndrome is associated to other gastrointestinal disease that should always detected through carefull examination of the patient. The differential diagnosis should be done with the pneumoperitoneum, subphrenic abscesses, thoracic disease. Complications are volvulus of the transverse colon and bowel obstruction. The surgical treatment options are discussed and are directed to fix the colon or to exclude the dead space. The authors present two cases of this syndrome one anterior an one anterior-posterior type and analize the literature.
