Report on a case of early postoperative para-duodenal hernia
Chetta G., Tatulli F., Caputi A.
Department of Surgery, P.O. “V. EMANUELE II” Bisceglie, Bari, Italy
Postoperative small bowel obstruction affects 12 – 17% of patients within one year from open general surgery. The etiology is rarely attributable to internal hernias. Duodeno-jejunal resection is the operation of choice on patients presenting with tumor of the third and fourth portion of the duodenum. The procedure is committing and may be unsuccessful due to serious complications. We report on the unusual occurrence of early post-operative upper gastrointestinal obstruction by right para-duodenal hernia complicating the duodeno-jejunal resection of a multifocal lymphoma.
