Inguinal preperitoneal prosthetic repair of groin hernia. Review of 1771 inguinal hernia repairs using the Rives modified technique

Background. Personal experience on 1771 hernia repairs performed with the Rives modificated procedure is reported.
Methods. The characteristics of this tension-free mesh technique consist in the absence of peripheral points of fixation of the mesh, in the ''lifting'' of the three inguinal dimples and in the rapidity of execution.
Results. No cases of death, as well as intraoperative or early postoperative complications and infections have been observed.
Conclusions. The result obtained confirm that this procedure offers some advantages in terms of complications and recurrences.
