Complications of the distal osteotomy of the I metatarsus on the therapy of the valgus hallux
Zirattu G., Zirattu F., Fadda M., Manconi B., Manunta A., Franco B.
Università degli Studi di Sassari Istituto di Clinica Ortopedica, Sassari
The authors want to analyse the complications observed in clinical case histories of 68 patients affected by valgus hallux and operated for the distal osteotomy of the I metatarsus . One must point out that the most important complications, of local nature, precocious or belated, prove to be correlated with the typology of the operation and with the trophic characteristic of the bone. In the range of the quality of the results, visiting patients having a score below good, one has to consider both a rate of unsuccess (10,3%) identical with the one reported in other clinical case histories and two additional classes: partial failure and border -line. For the latter a deeper attention must be paid during the three phases that characterize the therapeutic(al) iter of the hallux deformities( pre-surgery, surgical method, post-surgery procedures) in order to guarantee an optimum result. In particular in this study there are some parameters that can contraindicate this operation or can suggest particular or additional surgery procedures as in example. The advanced age, the high seriousness of the valgus, insecurity of I MF, the typology of metatarsal formula, the orientation of the osteotomy.
