Synovial impingement of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint in sesamoid pathology

We report 4 cases of patients suffering from metatarsalgia I the diagnosis of which was synovial impingement of the first metatarsal phalangeal joint, a pathology that has not been reported elsewhere in the literature and that was defined in the course of surgery. A short review of the main sesamoid conditions involved in differential diagnosis are also presented.
