Operating risk in elderly patients undergoing foot surgery

Napoli V.

PDF

Owing to the increasing age of the population, a growing number of elderly patients are undergoing elective foot surgery. Before operating on these patients, it is essential to evaluate the new biological equilibrium achieved by the various organs and apparatus owing to senile involution and their possible reactions to operative and postoperative stress. The presence of associated pathologies involving the respiratory, cardiocirculatory and renal systems accounts for the increased operating risk and may therefore be discriminating in a valuational survey.
