Evaluation of the results of sonographic screening of traumatic patients for early deep vein thrombosis

BACKGROUND: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is common in traumatic patients and causes other complications in patients, which is an essential element in the early detection of this complication in traumatic patients. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of sonographic screening of traumatic patients for early deep vein thrombosis.
METHODS: This study was performed on 130 traumatic patients, after receiving informed consensus and recording demographic data, and ultrasound screening was recorded for all patients. The χ2 and Fisher’s exact test were used to compare the data.
RESULTS: In the present study, the prevalence of DVT in traumatic patients was 7.7% and had a direct correlation with heart disease, organ fractures, ICU admission and ventilation, but not related to age, sex, history of diabetes and blood pressure, hemodynamic impairment, prophylaxis, and traumatic mechanism (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONS: In traumatic patients admitted to surgical emergency and with DVT risk factors, screening in patients by Doppler ultrasonography leads to a reduction in short-term and long-term complications and reduces hospital costs.
