Juvenile ossifying fibroma of naso-ethmoidal complex

Juvenile ossifyng fibroma is an expansive benign tumor, that differs from the common ossifying fibroma, as it arises in the middle third of the face. the characteristic localization of juvenile ossifyng fibroma, associated with a more aggressive behaviour, causes many troubles with regard to the planning of a correct surgical approach in order to obtain a radical removal. The authors report a case of juvenile ossifying fibroma of naso-ethmoidal complex in a 11-year-old boy, which has been removed via a Le Fort I osteotomy with midpalatal split. Finally, further to a brief description of histomorphologic characteristics of juvenile ossifyng fibroma, some considerations take place regarding to the importance of distinguish the above variant as a distinct nosologic entity from once involving the jaws. A correct diagnosis involves more aggressive surgical attitude and, therefore, it avoids local recurrence.
