U.O. ORL Ospedale G.Fornaroli, Magenta
Pectoralis Major Miocutaneous Flap (PMMF) has been largely employed in reconstruction of ablative or traumatic cervicofacial defects. Surgical technique, advantages and defects of this surgery approach are well known. The most important advantages of the PMMF are: easy flap preparation, single stage transfer, large amount of well vascularized muscle and skin, improved arch of rotation and low frequency of flap and donor site complications. The Authors present their experience considering the use of this technique as an alternative to free flaps in case of reconstruction of the laryngopharynx and cervical esophagus in head and neck cancer surgery. PMMF results easier, more tolerated by patients and presents a lower cases of adverse events.
