Background. In the correction of prominent ear, anthelix shaping plays a most important role in the aesthetic result. The authors present a technique for modelling the anthelix in a safe and stable manner and with good aesthetic results.
Methods. The surgical technique we propose is based on the principles of Stenstrom’s and Mustardè’s techniques and it has been employed in 78 patients. Surface chondrotomy of the lateral part of the auricular cartilage associated with the use of mattress sutures using reabsorbable thread make it possible to model an anthelical fold in an anatomical, simple and stable fashion.
Results. The technique gave good aesthetic results; only in 1 case did we have a partial relapse that required corrective intervention; in 5 cases complainde of hypoaesthesia with complete restitutio and integrum within 6 months.
Conclusions. We believe that this proposed surgical technique makes it possible to model an aesthetic anthelical fold that remains stable in time.
