Intracranial complications of otitis media. A case of cerebral abscess
Sbrocca M., Gorini E., Artesi L., Lenzi A., Mevio E.
Ospedale «G. Fornaroli» - Magenta (Milano) U.O. di Otorinolaringoiatria
Since the introduction of antibiotic therapy and modern middle ear surgery, complications of chronic otitis media have become very rare. On the contrary, these patologies are still present in the underveloped countries, where sanitary assistance and medico-surgical service are less available. A case of cerebral abscess following a chronic suppurative otitis media, neglected by the patient itself, inspite of many proposals for medical and surgical therapeutic solutions is reported. Clinical aspects and therapeutic opportunity are discussed and a survey of the most recent literature is made.
