Laryngeal metastases. A survey of the literature

Metastatic involvement of the larynx by distant malignancies is a rare event that can occur by hematogenous or lymphogenous spread through a retrograde or anterograde route. Metastases from cutaneous melanoma, papillary adenocarcinoma of the thyroid and renal carcinoma are the most common, whereas only sporadic cases stemming from lung, prostatic gland and colon adenocarcinoma have been observed. A survey of the literature on only 146 cases reported, is made.
