Ultraviolet (UV) light is known to cause several undesirable effects including premature aging, carcinogenesis and immune suppression. The immune response to UVB and UVA radiation involves an intricate network of cells, cytokines and signaling pathways. This review outlines some of the current research and key cellular components involved in UVB and UVA induced immune suppression as a result of either environmental or therapeutic exposure.
