Aim. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of an antiageing cosmetic product containing natural lipids, antioxydant substances, soothing molecules and sunscreens, using clinical and instrumental (corneometry and videodermatoscopy) methods.
Methods. The study has been carried out in a group of 15 patients (all females; age from 42 to 60 years) using a corneometer (CM 420) and a videodermatoscope (Fotofinder Derma Teach Screen). The evaluation was performed on the face (5 cm2 area of the central part of forehead and periocular areas). The cosmetic product was applied twice daily for 60 days. The instrumental evaluations were performed baseline (T0), after 30 days (T30) and after 60 days (T60) the application of the cosmetic product.
Results. The clinico-morphological parameters (dryness, rough to touch, desquamation, depth and number of wrinkles) decreased after 1 month of treatment and significantly at the end of the study. The results of clinical evaluation were confirmed by corneometer measurements. The videodermatoscopic immages documented the progressive reduction of wrinkles depth and number.
Conclusion. This clinical and instrumental study demonstrated the moisturizing effect of cosmetic product tested, able to restore the cutaneous changes induced by ageing on skin barrier. Furthermore we documented a significative reduction of wrinkles number and depth, related to an higher moisturizing effect on stratum corneum.
