The profile of chronic urticaria patient ideal for cyclosporin A treatment

When it is possible, the choice treatment for chronic urticaria, as well as all the other diseases, is identification and elimination of its etiologic agent. Unfortunately, this is usually identified only in very few cases; therefore, relief of symptoms is obtained with drug therapy. Many therapeutic approaches, sometimes “bizarre”, can be found in Literature, with contradictory outcomes too, especially for those cases which are refractory to all recognized therapies (namely antihistamines and corticosteroids). Recently, Cyclosporin A has been successfully employed, owing to its action on histamine release and on T lymphocytes. We reviewed the various case records of Literature and the ours, to attempt to identify the profile of chronic urticaria patient ideal for Cyclosporin A treatment. However, at the present moment, we must conclude that there are no features let us to describe this profile.
