Virus-induced persistent erythema multiforme successfully treated with alpha-interferon

Ospedale Civile - Ivrea (Torino), Divisione di Dermatologia
A case of persistent erythema multiforme in a positive HSV and EBV serology subject is presented. This connection has been showed in very few patients in the past. While common immunosuppressive (steroids, cyclosporine, azathioprine) and anti-viral (acyclovir) treatments have not induced good results, a regression of the disorder has resulted after treatment with interferon. No cases of alpha-interferon treated persistent erythema multiforme are, at the moment, referred in the literature.
