Acquired dermal melanocytosis. Description of two cases
Aloi F., Solaroli C., Pippione C.
Università degli Studi - Torino, Dipartimento di Discipline Medico-Chirurgiche, Sezione di Dermatologia II
Dermal melanocytosis are nevoid diseases presenting similar clinical and histological features. Among this group, Ota’s nevus, Ito’s nevus and Mongolian spot are commonly observed in asiatic and negroids. Usually they are present at birth; their occurrence in adult life is a rare event. Two cases of dermal melanocytosis occurring in adult caucasians are reported. The first case is a 21-year-old woman in which an ovoid, bluish macular lesion occurred on the scapular region. The lesion of two year’s duration presented some similarities to Ito’s nevus. In the second case the pigmentary disorder developed in adult life in a 54-year-old man. The lesion involved the lumbosacral area with features resembling Mongolian spot. Histologically, in all two cases there were dermal hyperpigmented dendritic melanocytes scattered between the collagen bundles. Differential diagnosis of other localized pigmentary disorders is discussed.
