Visceral leishmaniasis and diffuse psoriasis in HIV positive patient

Visceral leishmaniasis is frequently reported in association with HIV infection especially in countries where leishmaniasis in endemic. A peculiar case in which visceral leishmaniasis and diffuse psoriasis led to the diagnosis of HIV infection in a 24 year-old patient is reported. Cutaneous biopsy showed the presence of amastigotes within a typical histopathological of psoriasis. The clinical features and unusual localizations of psoriasis in HIV infection and its resistance to conventional therapy are discussed.
