Type Ia endoleaks are a significant problem which confer higher risk for patients treated with endografts than almost any other type of endoleak. For this reason, prevention by adhering to manufacturer outlined criteria for anatomic requirements is the best method of dealing with this issue. However, in the setting of proximal endoleak, the use of endoluminal adjunctive therapies, especially with graft re-inforcement using aortic cuffs and balloon-expandable stents offers the best current solution with the most reported data to date.
