OBJECTIVE: It's reported two cases with evidence of unilateral adnexal absence and ectopic ovarian hypoplasia with fallopian tube absence. A review of literature and discussion about the causes of these malformations is presented.
STUDY DESIGN: We searched in English language medical reports published between 1973 and 2014 on MEDLINE. We used key words including ovarian agenesis, ovarian hypoplasia, undescended ovary and fallopian tube abnormalities.
RESULTS: 5 studies were included on unilateral maldescent ovary without uterine anomalies and 23 reports of unilateral absence of one ovary with or without the absence of the fallopian tube.
CONCLUSIONS: We presented a systematic review of literature on this topic, reporting also our centre experience: the first with an absence of the right tube and ovary, with normal uterus and left adnexa and the second with absence of right fallopian tube, hypoplastic omolateral ovarian and normal kidneys and urinary tract.
