PDF

Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a life threatening condition which complicates 5-15% of acute myocardial infarctions (AMI). Despite advances in medical and interventional techniques during the last decades, the incidence of CS has not changed much, and while survival rates have improved, CS remains the leading cause of AMI-related in-hospital death with mortality rates exceeding 50%. We provide an overview of the pathophysiology, etiology, clinical course, as well as medical and interventional management of patients with CS complicating AMI.
