FULL TEXT

AIM: Geographic information system (GIS) is a technological tool and one of the best technologies for qualitative zoning of drinking water. Appreciation of hydrochemical and zoning status of a plain helps us to describe various strategies for water abstraction purposes, definitely in view of drinking water. In this article, qualitative zoning of Avan groundwater was carried out using GIS in order to find suitable sites of drinking water in the study area.
METHODS: By importing data into GIS environment, the required layers were developed using interpolation, and then single maps were developed by proper overlapping of the mentioned layers. Total dissolved solids and total hardness content were also shown in different parts of the plain according to the results of equivalent curves.
RESULTS: The final zoning maps showed that the northern parts have good quality resources due to water supply from Bakhtiari formation.
CONCLUSION: Using these maps, the appropriate sites in view of drinking water can be identified and by updating the information, better management can be governed on water quality of specific areas.
