Muscular activity of the shoulder range of motion: surface EMG (S-EMG) analysis

The S-EMG activity of eight muscles assessed through the shoulder range of motion is described by gender. Patterns of utilization of the two sexes are generally different and in some cases significant. Females tend to utilize 18% more electrical activity than males through the shoulder ROM. The investigation allows for the comparison between the genders and differential neuromuscular rehabilitation or optimization of training potential. The data can be utilized as normative in asymptomatic individuals. In the field of disability evaluation, these data are useful for comparative purposes with data from symptomatic individuals, especially in relation to the muscular performance of the shoulder range of motion.
