Mandibular growth is guided by different mechanisms depending on the different regions (corpus, ramus, condyle); overall, mandibular length shows the greatest growth changes, followed by ramus height and corpus length. Functional factors influence and, sometimes, modify mandibular shape. In this article, we report a case of accidental ingestion of caustic soda that caused a severe inhibiting effect on the sagittal growth of dento-alveolar mandibular process because of intraoral scarring. This case was treated with the combination of orthodontic therapy and maxillo-facial surgery.
