We report a case of lower limb acute ischemia following application of the Angio-Seal percutaneous hemostatic device. The patient, who had been studied with digital subtraction angiography prior to carotid endarterectomy, was again referred to our attention 5 days after discharge from hospital with signs of lower limb acute ischemia. Anamnestic and objective sources of embolisation were excluded. The only risk factor consisted of the previous application of the Angio-Seal device on the femoral artery. Emergency angiography and intraoperative findings during thromboembolectomy showed distal embolisation from the anchor of the hemostatic device. In the light of this case and a review of the literature, we confirm the undoubted utility of the Angio-Seal device, but we believe that there is the possibility of device-related complications.
