Microdebriders in endoscopic sinus surgery

The application of microdebrider technology to endoscopic sinus surgery aims to complement traditional non-powered instrumentation in achieving the surgical principles of precise tissue dissection, mucosal preservation, and adequate tissue visualization. Modifications of the technology have spurred the widespread adoption of microdebriders and it has rapidly become a mainstay of surgical instrumentation. Although its use is supported by the available clinical literature, a critical examination of its indications, practical usage and potential pitfalls is necessary.
