Non-specific chronic pharyngitis are a chapter of otorhinolaryngological pathology which has been regarded with a certain unconcern in the last years. The anatomo-physiology of pharynx is reviewed and the authors point out that a trophic illness of the pharyngeal mucous membrane must be often regarded as the symptom of a general disorder involving the muscle-ligamentous apparatus, the neurovascular sector, the secretory sector, such as to alter both specific and non-specific defensive ability. Consequently non specific chronic pharyngitis have a phatogenetic mechanism, whose predisposing factors and provoking factors play an essential role in producing a particular clinical feature.
