Drug addictions and mood depression: toward an integrated multi-modal treatment

Manna V.

PDF

In this brief up-dating article, recent studies on the alcohol and drug addictions correlated to depressive disorders and contemporary dimensional diagnostic approaches to pathological dependence disorders are reviewed. In the last few years, the attention of many researchers and clinicians was focused on the psychiatric comorbidity in alcohol-substances abusers, in the light of the self-medication hypothesis of addictive disorders. A particular attention was reserved to psychodynamics of drug dependence, in the perspective of integrating pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and specific social support in the treatment of addictive disorders.
