Are atraumatic rotator cuff tears painful? A model to describe the relationship between pain and rotator cuff tears

Kuhn J. E.

Kenneth D. Schermerhorn, Professor of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, Vanderbilt University Medical School, Nashville, TN, USA

PDF

The indications for rotator cuff repair are not clear. This is likely due to the fact that many rotator cuff tears are asymptomatic, and the relationship between rotator cuff disease and pain is not robust. The purpose of this narrative review is to explore the literature and offer a model to explain the relationship between pain and rotator cuff disease.
