Dynamics of weight-bearing lower extremities
The muscle/joint system is a flexible element that serves to protect the joint, particularly cartilage, from integrity-threatening stresses. The appearance of arthrosic degeneration in weight-bearing lower extremity joints is attributable to the reduction in muscle tone and the muscles’ failure to attenuate knocks, while axis deviations, while increasing stresses per cm2, do not lead to arthrosis in the presence of good muscular damping.
