PDF

Background. Aim of this paper is to evaluate the results in the treatment of femur subtrochanteric fractures.
Methods. From January 1996 to January 1998 a total of 24 subtrochanteric fractures have been treated using short IMHS (9 patients), long IMHS (7 patients) and Ambu Plate screw (8 patients).
Results. The results obtained were excellent in 8 patients, good in 10 and poor in 4; unsuccessful results (delayed union) were observed in 2 cases.
Conclusions. The patients treated with Ambi Plate screw maintained the anatomical reduction for a long time. In patients treated with intramedullary nail system, the reduction indirectly obtained was not always anatomical, but this system allowed an early assisted stress.
