Peretti G. M., Razza F., Mac'as G., Lastroni G.
Personal experience in one case of false aneurysm as complication of external fixation technique in the treatment of psedoarthrosis is reported. A 36-year-old man developed a psedoarthrosis in the posterior tibial artery after two months of treatment of type III psedoarthrosis with Ilizarov-like device. This study highlights the risk in developing this complication when external stabilizer is applied to a limb with a long surgical history, with alteration of the vascular anatomy of the district. The importance of arteriography is also stressed as a diagnostic exam and preventive tool for the study of that particular vascular district. Moreover, different treatment options are presented for this complication.
