Open angle glaucoma is a chronic disease, usually bilateral, asymmetric, characterized by a progressive damage to the optic nerve and generally occurring after 40 years of age. This type of glaucoma has the highest percentage of occurrence in our country. In this paper a careful survey of the literature on this topic is presented.
