The review describes the new technique of bimanual microphacoemulsification in cataract surgery: experimental and clinical studies, technology and surgical technique. Bimanual microphacoemulsification is compared with traditional phacoemulsification and coaxial miniphacoemulsification. The application of this innovative technique in the management of complex cases as cataract and vitreo-retinal pathologies, pediatric cataract and complicated cataract is also considered.
