Dipartimento di Anatomia, Farmacologia e Medicina Legale, Università degli Studi di Torino, Torino, Italia
This paper reprises elements already covered in previous publications. The purpose is to provide a framework for insurance contracts, starting from an historical point of view, and subsequently describing many legal and technical elements, with particular attention to key roles such as the insurer, the policyholder, the insured and the beneficiary; special attention is also dedicated to the concept of insurance risk. Key contracts in medical field are then analyzed: medical expenses insurance (with particular regard to the costs of rehabilitation), disability from disease insurance, dread disease insurance and Long Term Care policies.
