Andrology: professional responsibility and insurance problems

2 Scuola di Specializzazione in Urologia Università di Torino, Torino, Italia

For a number of years now the Italian Urology Society (SIU) has been issuing single-theme publications on questions of forensic medicine (consensus, team questions, legislation) whereas the Italian Andrology Society (SIA) has not yet addressed the heavy load of responsibility that weighs on the surgeon when he operates on an erectile dysfunction or on the adaptation of the sexual aspects of the trans-sexual. The authors set out the problems assigned to andrology in present-day medicine and then examine questions of the physician-patient relationship. The procedures worked out by a university forensic medicine and urology interdisciplinary study group from the University of Turin are then described. The presentation of the specialist physician’s professional responsibility policy ends the volume which, to conclude, formulates the salient aspects which the andrologist’s insurance guarantee should possess.
