Main medicolegal problems in diabetes mellitus

Pastena M., Brenari P., Fatigante G., Mascaro V.

The main problems concerning the medicolegal evaluation of diabetes are discussed and analyzed, depending on their different field. The reference criteria to use for a medicolegal evaluation of diabetes are underlined and the differences between the classification and the diagnostic criteria are briefly point out: the ''traditional'' classification of diabetes mellitus and the new one. This latter classification is under complete clinical application and is based on different reference criteria. The evaluation criteria of damage caused by diabetes mellitus in the main fields of application are examined with special attention to the psychophysical damage of patients. Finally, a few comments on the results obtained are given.
