Progestins are a group of different compounds sharing the ability to induce secretory changes on a endometrium pretreated with estrogen, while they are different in some abilities, for example the interaction with receptors other than progestin receptor, as androgenic or mineralocorticoid receptor. Some progestins have antiandrogenic properties and are used in treating hyperandrogenic manifestations (seborrhea, acne, hirsutism). The different clinical pharmacology of the various progestins is the basis for an individualized treatment in different clinical conditions.
