The impact of technology and early childhoods’ motor experiences on the development of children’s motor-perceptual abilities

Today technology has affected children’s lifestyles, especially opportunities for motor- perceptual experiences during the childhood. For the importance of motor- perceptual development and neglecting of the attention to the impact of technology on children’s physical experience opportunities by community, the purpose of this study was to ascertain the impact of technology on the children’s development of the motor-perceptual abilities during childhood by comparing the motor-perceptual abilities among the urban and rural children (7 to 10 years old). An urban group and a rural group, each comprised of 90 students of seven to ten years old (45 boys and 45 girls), were compared. The Lincoln-Oseretsky Motor Development Scale as an instrument was used for the assessment of perceptual-motor abilities (balance, upper limp coordination, bilateral coordination, upper limb speed and dexterity, visual-motor control and strength). The findings indicated that the rural children’s motor-perceptual development was significantly better than the urban children’s. On the other word, it seems that low motor- perceptual development associate to the high use of Technology in metropolises that lead to limit divers and challenging motor and perceptual experiences during the childhood. Also it appears that the motor experiences in early childhood as critical and sensitive periods have positive effects on the students’ motor-perceptual development.
