A case of scaphoid fracture due to cyclic stress in power training (bench press) is reported. When the traditional radiological film appear to be normal a bone scan may be very helpful to get a diagnosis of stress fracture. Special emphasis is given in discussion of the differential diagnosis with different possible causes of wrist pain related to athletic endeavour. An early diagnosis affords the best chance for successful conservative treatment. The authors remark the importance for both the traumatologist and the sport physician to be aware of the bench press manoeuvre and its biomechanical implications on the upper limb. Concerning the stress on the scaphoid it is emphasised the repetitive overload when the wrist is forced in abduction and dorsiflexion.
