Morphotype and sports performance: the case of 100-meter sprinters in the Ivory Coast

BACKGROUND: This work proposes to establish a relation enters performance with the hundred meters (100m) of a group of sprinters of the Ivory Coast and of the anthropometric data as well as qualitative information relating to the living conditions and anteriority of the practice of this sporting discipline.
METHODS: It related to 52 athletes including 15 girls and 37 boys, old from 15 to 27 years. Anthropometric data obtained on the subjects have licence to calculate the components of the morphotype, in particular the endomorphy, the mesomorphy and the ectomorphy in function sex. The athletic performance of these athletes was appreciated through a speed test.
RESULS: The results analyzed separately according to the sex show the existence of a highly significant connection between the performance with the hundred meters (100 m), certain anthropometric dimensions and of the qualitative criteria. Among boys, a multiple regression equation makes it possible to consider the performance sporting with a good precision (R=0.77, P<0.01). The diagram of Bland and Altman indicates that 95% of the estimates among boys are included/understood enters [-0.67; 0.97] and in the girls between [-0.60; 1.94] with a R=0.88 coefficient, P<0.01.
CONCLUSIONS: The performance obtained with the 100m by the runners is closely related to the morphological characteristics associated a thickness of cutaneous folds like to general criteria relating to the living conditions and the precocity of the practice of this discipline. In addition, there is a parallelism between the boys and the girls insofar as the sporting performance utilizes same measurements and criteria through the weight, the stature, the IMC, the IO and the living conditions. Lastly, taking into account weak manpower by category of age and sex, the components of the somatotypes do not enable us to establish a significant connection with the performance with the 100m.
