Aim. The authors talk about their therapeutic strategies using LMWH to prevent venous thromboembolism in orthopaedic and traumatologic surgery. Patient with single or multiple fractures, with politrauma, after major orthopaedic surgery, have an high risk of undergoing thromboembolic event.
Methods. Between 1999 and 2009 986 patients with politrauma were treated thanks to a lot of osteosynthesis. Results: we analized the percent of incidence of VTE between their complications.
Results. VTE is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in the world, arising to 10% of the whole hospital deaths. It needs to reduce the rate of incidence of this event in the patient with politrauma there are antithrombotic drugs more and more efficient that have various mechanism of action among the coagulation and allow to take care of patient’s health.
Conclusion. Most of patients undergoing to death when go home and it is not good to attend signs and symptoms of VTE before treating with useful thromboprophylaxis. Depending on our results it needs to prolong thromboprophylaxis theraphy at least sixty days going home from hospital.
