There are evidence in literature that depression is a public heath problem because of its prevalence and its consequences. The aim of this work is to evaluate the social impact of depression and the use of health services in the care and management of depression through the project of collaboration between Mental Heath Service and Primary Care from 2000 to 2006 into the 2° Psychiatric Service of Padua. Management strategies including training primary care staff, consultation service and integrated care. Depression is undiagnosed and often untreated or badly treated. Different studies found evidences that collaboration between mental health services and medical general (but also with medical and surgical wards of general hospital) increased the recognition and the treatment of this mental disorder and reduce the consequences of depression, using public health programmes evidence-based oriented.
