This paper reviews the most relevant contributions of the last 20 years about the illnesses of doctors; the informations on this issue are quite scanty and addressed more on the minor or maior psychiatric syndromes than on physical illnesses based on specific professional or environmental risk factors. As a matter of fact physicians under 50 y o seem to be affected by invulnerability, and do not take care of their prevention and cure; on the contrary most of them when affected undergo selfmanagment of diagnosis and treatment, living with shame their disease and coming back to the work as soon as possible. This behaviour is dangerous in terms of professional mistake to word depatiants. The italian activities for doctor medical care in order to preserve their fitness wellness and to defend from being prosecuted and against professional liability are reported.
