Aim. Administration of B-Sympatheticomimetic drugs to animals such as rat, mouse, and hamster causes hyperthrophy and hyperplasia of glandular tissues.
Methods. In the present investigation, three groups of male adult albino were selected. Animals were treated for 15 consecutive days with B1-agonist dobutamine, 60 mg/kg body wt perday or by B2- agonist Terbutaline 40 mg/kg body wt perday respectively. Sterile distilled water was used for control. In the end of experiment animals sacrificed and salivary glands were expirpated and weighed, then glands extracts were prepared.
Results. After both dobutamine and terbutaline treatment the weights of parotid glands increased significantly(p<0.01, p<0.05 respectively). Submandibular gland weights also, were effected significantly by terbutaline (p<0.05). Gland weights and total protein were not significantly affected by the two selective B-adrenergic agonists in sublingual glands.SDS-PAGE of parotid exracts of dobutamine and terbutaline treated animals rvealed six and four protein bands with molecular weights of about uo, 38,35,34,32,27 and 40,38,35,34, kds respectively.
Conclusions. SDS-PAGE of sumandibular and sublingual of terbutaline treated animals showed protein bands with molecular weights of about 20,18 and 16 kds. The present research in rabbit probadly suggests the B1-and B2-adrenergic receptors. On the other gand, B1-subtupe also is dominantin in rabbit parotid gland.
