Quantitative analysis of trunk and shoulder girdle movements during the sit-to-stand movement in a hemiplegic patient, compared to a healthy subject was carried out. The latero-lateral component of the forces and the possible correlation between the investigated parameters and the clinical deficit, evaluated using the Albert scale, have been studied. This study allowed us to confirm, through a quantitative analysis of some variables, the qualitative data already available in the Literature regarding the sit-to stand transfer in hemiplegic patients, particularly concerning trunk and shoulder movements. The comparison between the data of each patient and their clinical deficit degree suggests that these abnormal actions help to compensate the clinical deficit of the lower limb, thus reducing the use of the ill leg in the displacement upward and forward of the centre of the gravity as much as possible. Some rehabilitative considerations are exposed.
