The esthetic treatment of facial and neck wrinkles with botulinum toxin is constantly increasing. More and more specialists are using this practice, thus making it necessary the formulation of guidelines on the procedures for the use of botulinum toxin in the treatment of wrinkles and/or cosmetic defects. A panel of nine doctors between plastic surgeons, maxillofacial plastic surgeons, dermatologists and esthetic doctors discussed about their method of cosmetic treatment of face and neck wrinkles with OnabotulinumtoxinA. From the data collected and discussed by the board, we have developed some recommendations in the esthetic treatment with botulinum toxin. Recommendations have been made on the patient assessment in pretreatment, on reconstitution of OnabotulinumtoxinA, as well as on treatment procedures in terms of injection sites and the total dose of OnabotulinumtoxinA for the following indications: glabellar lines, crow’s feet lines, forehead lines, eyebrow shaping, lower orbicularis oculis hypertrophy, bunny lines, sagging nasal tip, gummy smile, masseter hypertrophy, perioral lines, marionette lines, chin and platisma bands. The use of OnabotulinumtoxinA in esthetic field requires careful initial assessment of the patient in its complexity and individuality, the use of treatment processes established and standardized, and requires dealing with the patient’s expectations, in order to play the effectiveness and safety of OnabotulinumtoxinA achieved in clinical practice.
