Use of the reading man flap for simple reconstruction of substance loss of the eyelids and malar region in four patients is described. The flap name refers to the design which resembles a person reading a newspaper. The flap was used in four patients to correct circular defects of the temporal and malar regions and of the eyelids. The reading man flap offers a valuable alternative for the reconstruction of circular defects in these areas: flap design is simple, does not require complex calculations, does not require transforming a circular into a lozenge-shaped defect, thus sparing healthy tissue. Flap color and thickness are similar to those of the skin surrounding the defect; wide defects without distortion of the palpebral fissure were adequately repaired with the use of this flap.
