Skin dryness (xerosis), a typical condition of intrinsic (normal IgE levels) and extrinsic atopic dermatitis, can exacerbate the natural history of eczema and increase the number of flares. The use of appropriate detergents can reduce xerosis and improve cutaneous reactivity. In this study the results of treatment using a sulfur mud bath based detergent vs an oat seed oil detergent were compared using the lactic acid test to measure transcutaneous water loss and cutaneous reactivity.
