Aim. The effectiveness of a new topical gel based on glycerin (Anidril gel) as keratolytic agent in patients with psoriasis was evaluated.
Methods. Thirty patients (18 males and 12 females) aged between 35 and 60 years old (mean age 47.5), affected by stable plaque psoriasis, were enrolled in this study. Glycerin gel was applied once a day and washed out after 6-8 h until disappearance of hyperkeratosis.
Results. All patients, evaluated according to visual assessment score (VAS) showed the following results: a complete recovery (regression ≥80% of stratum corneum thickness) was obtained in 80% of the patients and a partial regression (regression ≥50%) in 20%. None of the patients were treatment resistant. The mean time of treatment was 10 days (7-13 days).
Conclusion. On the basis of our experience, the conslusion is drawn that glycerin gel is effective and well tolerated in most of the patients, representing a useful therapeutical procedure in stable plaque psoriasis with significant stratum corneum thickness.
